While the answer varies depending on the ‘UPLOAD’ speed of your Internet connection the traffic graphs below will show you how much bandwidth a typical Axis Camera that H.264 compression will use at different frame rates.

Note: These traffic graphs were created in the Camera Agent test lab and actual real world traffic patterns may differ slightly.

 

H.264 Compression Bandwidth Results

H.264 Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 1fps = 11Kbps

H.264 Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 3fps = 22Kbps

H.264 Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 5fps = 33Kbps

H.264 Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 7fps = 44Kbps

H.264 Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 10fps = 60Kbps

 

No Compression Bandwidth Results

The traffic graphs below represent Axis Camera’s that do NOT support H.264 compression. As you can see the bandwidth required for these camera’s is much higher at the same resolution and frames per second then the H.264 enabled camera’s tested above.

No Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 1fps = 332Kbps

No Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 3fps = 979Kbps

No Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 5fps = 1.57Mbps

No Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 7fps = 2.2Mbps

No Compression – 640 x 480 Resolution – 10fps = 2.29Kbps
